    Equine Worm Wise Workshop

This course will be delivered face-to-face in our Veterinary Education Centre. We will cover all internal parasite essentials including:

    • Parasites – what are they and what are their lifecycles?
    • What is anthelmintic resistance and why is it important?
    • What tests are available to me and my horse?
    • What treatments should I be (or not be) using and when?
    • Addressing common misconceptions

    Intended learning outcomes:

    • Understand the major worm species affecting horses and their full life cycles — helping you recognise risk periods, transmission pathways and environmental pressure.
    • Learn how to apply responsible and sustainable parasite control — reducing unnecessary wormer use while protecting the long-term health of your horses and your grazing.
    • Develop confidence in testing approaches such as Faecal Egg Counts, saliva testing and risk-based surveillance — knowing when to test, how to interpret results, and how to make the correct decisions based on evidence not guesswork.
    • Gain critical insight into anthelmintic resistance — what it is, why it is escalating, and how to slow and prevent resistance development so current wormers remain effective for the future.
